Taking time to pause, reflect, and celebrate

Have you ever worked on a big project, put so much effort into it, nearly given up several times, and then as soon as it is completed moved on to the next big thing? I have, and many times too.

Why do we do this? Have our busy lives made us believe there is no time to stop or slow down? Are we even aware of the benefits of taking a moment to look back at how far we have come?

Do you take time to pause, reflect and celebrate after achieving your goals?

  • Always

  • Sometimes

  • Never

The benefits of taking time to stop and reflect

There are plenty of benefits to stopping and reflecting on what we have achieved, and here are just a few to help shift your mindset to be more open and curious:

  • An opportunity to recognise good work, and strengths, and celebrate efforts

  • To reflect on the lessons learned along the way and how we can navigate them differently next time

  • To bring teams and people together and increase motivation and engagement

  • To provide clarity and understanding of the bigger picture

  • To understand the importance of slowing down and being present

Which one stands out for you? Do you have a team, or maybe you are a small business owner that takes on all roles? What would help you the most?

So, what happens when we don't?

If we don't prioritise the time to pause and reflect, we can run the risk of losing sight of our why. We can end up in a mindless cycle of always chasing the next best thing, and not really understanding why we are even doing it, and what the benefits are.

We begin to lose the joy we once had, get fed up with what we are doing, and start to long for something else, without really knowing what it even is that we want. Does this sound familiar?

3 simple ways you can stop and celebrate the milestones

Here are 3 simples ways to help you take a breath and maintain that focus and energy you have for the things you enjoy in life.

  1. Keep a journal - once a day/week/month grab a notebook and write down what you have achieved, and how it makes you feel. Just looking back over your entries will help you remember your why.

  2. 5-minute journal - if you prefer a digital approach as well as prompts to guide you with your journaling, then try the 5-Minute Journal, which is a daily gratitude and mood tracker. I love that you can even add photos too, great for those of you who are more visual.

  3. Clearing exercise - this one is my personal favourite. At the beginning of each week I meet with my accountability partner (if you don't have one I highly recommend getting one - this is honestly a game changer for me) and we start our day with a short written exercise where we write down what went well in the past week, what challenges we faced, and what we will do differently next time. Then we share what we have written with each other, and celebrate our progress and plans for the future. It is honestly so refreshing and always leaves us feeling pumped for the week ahead.

I hope this has helped you feel refreshed and ready to make some positive changes for the week ahead. Please feel free to reach out and let me know what works for you, I always love to learn new and interesting ways of doing things.
